The G3 DAM extension allows applications that need Data Access Manager (DAM) services to run on Power Macintosh G3 desktop and minitower computers. This document describes the G3 DAM extension and when you need to install it.
What Is the G3 DAM extension?
The G3 DAM extension is a system extension that allows Power Macintosh G3 desktop and minitower models to run software that depends on the Data Access Manager (DAM). DAM originally shipped as part of system software 7.0 to provide access to databases (typically relational) and can be used by both clients and servers. Currently, Mac OS 8.0 and 8.1 report that DAM is not available on Power Macintosh G3 desktop and minitower computers although DAM is included. The G3 DAM extension corrects this issue.
Who Needs to Install the G3 DAM extension?
Any Power Macintosh G3 desktop or minitower user running Mac OS 8.0 or 8.1 who use applications that require Data Access Manager (DAM) services should install the G3 DAM extension.
Installing the G3 DAM extension
To install the G3 DAM extension, follow these steps.
1. Make sure your System Folder is not open. While holding down the Option key, drag the G3 DAM extension to the icon of the System Folder on your hard disk.
2. Click OK in the dialog box that appears. This should put a copy of the G3 DAM extension in your Extensions folder within the System Folder.
3. Restart the computer.
